Craft connections

“Lonliness can be as harmful for your health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.”

Craft Connections is an intergenerational project using food and craft as a way to engage isolated and lonely older people in Hackney and Haringey. 30 older people took part in two decorative ceramic workshops with renowned artist John Booth that were inspired by their food memories.

Culinary students from New City College, Hackney were charged with creating dishes inspired by those memories. The project culminated in a shared community lunch for Dementia Week, where the plates were presented to all who took part.
